North Bethesda health and human services consulting firm seeks an Editorial Board Manager to support the development and maintenance of the Physician Data Query (PDQ) cancer information summaries pertaining to the field of cancer genetics for NCI’s website, cancer.gov.
The ideal candidate will have experience in developing cancer-related genetics content for patients and health professionals and be skilled in working with Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) (e.g., physicians, genetic counselors) to manage/moderate meetings. An ability to translate highly technical material into concise, engaging, and actionable content on various digital platforms and a solid understanding of genetics and biological sciences is a must. An ability to apply the language level that fits the audience type is vital in maintaining NCI’s website.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
Serve as the manager and primary staff resource for the PDQ Cancer Genetics Editorial Board and coordinate all activities of the Editorial Board and its corresponding Advisory Board.
Manage and moderate Board meetings and working group meetings.
Manage Editorial Board and Advisory Board membership including recruiting and orienting new Board members.
Review results of monthly literature searches to identify appropriate scientific articles for Board members to review for potential inclusion in Genetics summaries.
Track decisions about scientific literature in a customized, web-based system (EBMS).
Work with Board members to write and revise summaries on inherited cancer genetics and enter revisions into an XML-based content management system (CDR).
Work closely with a support group of science writers, editors, and nurses to ensure timely updating, editing, and publishing of Cancer Information Summaries to Cancer.gov.
Manage NCI Dictionary of Genetics terms.
Facilitate periodic external review of PDQ genetics summaries by Advisory Board and other experts.
Participate on other teams at NCI, including a search engine optimization (SEO) and evaluation team and a cancer information summaries team.
Participate in the development of new Genetics patient summaries.
Assist with proposal development and support for other corporate projects as needed.
Education: Bachelor’s degree or higher in genetics, biological sciences, health or medical-related field.
Language: English fluency (oral and written)
5+ years of experience in the medical field (oncology or genetic counseling preferred).
Strong history of translating highly technical findings into concise, engaging, and actionable content that is written for health professionals.
Experience working in the field of genetics and the biological sciences.
Knowledge of cancer-related topics and genetics.
Proven ability to identify, review, and critique genetics research literature; grade quality of evidence and strength of recommendations; and synthesize independently, with minimal guidance from content experts.
Excellent writing and editing skills as applied to scientific and health-related content.
Ability to handle multiple projects at once while maintaining attention to detail; strong organizational skills.
Excellent oral communication skills.
Collaborative skills—can engage with a team of talented in-house staff, SMEs, and government staff.
High degree of proficiency with Microsoft Office and the ability to learn new software systems.

PREFERRED JOB QUALIFICATIONS:
Education: Master’s degree or BSN
Experience in searching medical literature citations in PubMed and other Federal databases.
Development of evidence-based content, preferably for the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services or other federal agencies or contracting organizations involved in the health and human services field.
